Pinned It, Tried It – The “Lauren Conrad” Smoothie
14 Jan
I’ve been making a conscious effort to consult my Pinterest boards lately for meal and snack inspiration. I think we’ve all fallen into the trap of pinning items that we “must try,” only to never look at them again, so I’m hoping to put the plethora of ingenious Pinterest ideas to good use!
I usually visit the site every Sunday while I’m meal planning to see if anything jumps out at me. This weekend, I remembered I had pinned Lauren Conrad’s “7 Days to Skinny Jeans” Oatmeal Smoothie and decided to give it a try.
I was intrigued by the fact that the smoothie had oatmeal in it; that’s something I’ve never tried before! I liked how it added a different consistency and helped to thicken it up a bit.
Below is the original recipe, with my substitutions/changes in bold.
The “Lauren Conrad” Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 c. ice
- 1/2 c. frozen raspberries or strawberries (I used 1 c. fresh strawberries.)
- 1/2 c. plain low-fat yogurt (I used 1/2 c. vanilla Chobani.)
- 1 banana
- 1/2 c. old fashioned rolled oats
- 1 tbsp. honey
- 1 c. coconut water or juice (I used skim milk.)
I actually whipped up this smoothie for dinner last night because I was feeling sort of “blah,” and didn’t feel like eating a big meal. I was surprised that it filled me up; no tummy grumbles later on in the evening!

Before signing off for the evening, I wanted to point everyone’s attention to Danielle’s fundraising efforts.
Danielle is running a half marathon this spring and raising money to help her aunt fight ovarian cancer. She is hoping to raise $1,300 and is asking that contributors donate $13 — $1/mile she’ll be running. However, any amount will help her cause! Please consider giving if you can; I’m off to make my donation now!

Sounds yummy! I do love adding oatmeal to my smoothies. It adds some thickness, nutrition, and helps me feel more satisfied. I also love adding nut butter to smoothies to give it a creamy texture and adds some extra healthy fat!

I’ve never added oatmeal to my smoothies before, but I definitely might have to try it! And I’m TERRIBLE about pinning things and never trying them! I’m trying to make a bigger effort to actually MAKE things from my boards too!
