2013 Fitness and Health Goals
1 Jan
Happy New Year everyone!
How did you spend your NYE? Chris and I went out to dinner with my mom (my dad had to work!) and then we went over to his parents’ house to bring in 2013. I was so tired, so we ended up heading home around 12:30AM and went straight to bed.
I woke up this morning to the sound of my alarm; it was time to get out and run the four miles I had planned. To my surprise, Chris asked if he could tag along.
First run with my new Garmin!
So let’s recap… it takes me about a month+ to be able to run four (slow) miles and Chris just wakes up one day and says, “I think I’ll run four miles today.” Seems fair!
It was fun to have the company!

I always try to make a few resolutions at the start of a new year. I know some people find resolutions to be silly – and maybe sort of pointless? – but I always appreciate a “fresh start.”
While these aren’t my only goals for the new year, I did want to share the fitness and health goals I hope to achieve in 2013.
#1 – Finish the Disney Princess Half Marathon.
This will get crossed off my list early on in 2013. The farthest I’ve run so far is about 6.5 miles. I really need to focus and work hard to be prepared for February 24th!
#2 – Take my vitamins regularly.
I wrote a post about taking vitamins back in July, but have since become remiss at actually taking them. I want to make a conscious effort to take my probiotic, B12 vitamin, and Viactiv chew daily; I just need to force myself to make a habit of it!
#3 – Cut back on sugar.
I’m sure it’s obvious from the name of my blog, but I love sweets! Perhaps I’m being more mindful of my sugar intake because I’ve been eating way more sweets than usual – thank you Christmas cookies – but this is something I need to work on. Just to be clear – sugar and desserts are not being eliminated from my life (I definitely plan on having dessert today!). I just want to lessen the amount I’m eating overall; this should be pretty doable.
I’ll try and remember to check in with these goals throughout the year!
Did you make any fitness and health goals/resolutions for 2013?

Great job on your 4 miler! My husband is the same way with running… He rarely ever runs, but he could easily go run a half marathon right now, no problem. So not fair! Haha. Happy New Year!

Hi! I’m a first time visitor to your blog!! your goals seem awesome!! I’m the same way, I look at the new year like a fresh start!

Welcome Candice!
I’m not much of a “goal person,” but I do want to try balancing my schedule a bit better. When I am stressing over an exam or project, I immediately cut out my workouts because I view it as time that I should be studying. However, workouts always help with my stress levels, so I need to cut out the time, even if it is only 30 minutes!

There are definitely some (many??) nights when I want to skip the gym to get one of my other tasks done, but I always feel so much better afterwards. Even if — like you said — it can only be a quick workout!
LOVE your pink garmin! I have the forerunner that is gray and orangish/red and it is so not cute like yours! Happy New Year!

Thank you! I’ll admit I was drawn to this model because of the fun color!
Cutting back on sugar is on the top of my list for 2013!! I have to read your vitamin post because I should probably be doing that too!
I have no excuse — the vitamins are literally just sitting in my kitchen cabinet!
I need to cut back sugar as well! My number one resolution though is to do one thing a day that makes me genuinely happy
Life’s too short!
That’s a great resolution!
Great goals! And such an inspiration that you were able to get up and out the door this morning!
Thanks Kate!
I just posted about my goals for 2013 too! My husband can do the same thing with running – he makes it look so easy on our long runs together!

great resolution list. I’m more of a goal girl than resolutions! Don’t you just hate those people that can just run long distances no problem haha okay maybe not hate but it is just so much work!

Yes, I couldn’t believe it!
I’m right there with you on the sugar! I really want to cut it out of my diet as much as possible. I can’t believe how many cookie/dessert binges I had in December. Probably should do a bit of a detox for awhile
My plan is to enjoy dessert 1x/week until Easter and then re-evaluate. The same with drinking – 1x/week until Easter. I’m hoping to stick with it.

That is a great plan! I wish I were strong enough to do dessert only 1x/week, but I know I wouldn’t be able to stick to that!
I just ordered a Garmin Forerunner 10 online and it arrived in the mail and one of the buttons wouldn’t work! I was so excited to use it on my run today too
Great resolutions!

Oh no!!! That stinks!
Ha Ha, can i just tell you how much I laughed when I read about Chris just waking up and saying hell go on a run with you. Joshua did the same thing… but it was a half marathon.

Ugh… men. haha
Being careful with your sugar intake is a good one! That’s something I need to work on. I never drink soda or juice, but I still feel like sugar sneaks into my diet through other things all the time. I try to be conscious of it, not only because sugar isn’t great for you, but also because it tends to keep me up at night if I accidentally have some too late.

Yes! There is so much stuff that you wouldn’t even necessarily think of as “sugary” that actually contains a LOT! I need to be more mindful!
Isn’t that the truth! Travis didn’t train at all for the triathlon we did this summer and he still survived (though it may not have been pretty at the end
…) but I trained and almost had to walk the run! haha

My husband (also Chris) is totally the same way! While we’re training for this half marathon I run several times during the week and he ONLY does long runs on the weekend and always ends up less sore than I am. Darn men! Also, great goals for 2013! I’m right there with you on the sugar intake. Stupid Christmas cookies got me this year!

I hear ya on cutting back on sugar. I’m usually not into sugar as much as I have been. It’s like once you start you can’t stop!
