A Holiday Tradition

31 Oct

Happy Halloween everyone! Do you all get a lot of trick-or-treaters? This is our first year in our new neighborhood, so I’m not sure how many we’ll have.

I’m one of “those people” who leaves a basket of candy out with a “Take One Please” sign. I do this for 2 reasons… 1) I don’t feel like lifting my 30 lb. pug every time someone comes to the door, and 2) I’m here by myself and I’m just not big on answering the door ever let alone when I’m home alone… I’m a scaredy cat!

Truth be told, I’m really not big on Halloween. Well, except for the candy. I’ll take any excuse to eat some candy!

Regardless of the fact that it’s not my favorite holiday, I still always make it a point to put a little something together for Chris.

In addition to his Halloween pumpkin, Chris has a gigantic stocking that I fill each Christmas and an Easter basket. (In case you’re wondering, I ordered each personalized item from Pottery Barn Kids probably the first year we were dating!)

Let’s take a little loosky inside this year’s pumpkin…

I didn’t go totally overboard this year, but I did pick up a few of his favorite candies, as well as a new K-Cup flavor for him to try.

Each holiday, candy is my go to for his basket/stocking fillers. Some other good items?

  • Gift cards
  • Scratch-off lottery tickets
  • Chapstick
  • Gum

I usually don’t have too much trouble filling the pumpkin or Easter basket; his Christmas stocking, however, is a whole other story! When I said it was gigantic earlier, I wasn’t kidding. I’ll have to remember to take a picture of it this year to show you all!

Do you do anything similar for your significant other? Are you celebrating Halloween? I am – if you count working on grad work as celebrating?! ;-)

you are seriously the best wife ever! that is so nice of you! I would definitely do the same thing you did and just leave it out with take one.. because harleyyy and hunter would go crazy everytime someone comes to the door. I work though tonight while everyone is trick or treating so Eric was by himself handing out the candy!

That is so cute that you put together a pumpkin for Chris. I usually do this for Toly for Easter but I didn’t think to do one for Halloween. that’s okay, he got to eat all of the candy this year since trick-or-treat night got nixed.

The girls have pumpkins like that for trick-or-treating. They are filled to the brim with candy now :) I think it’s really cute that you get Chris treats for Halloween!

I’m jealous… I’ve seen a lot of parents posting pictures of their kids Halloween candy… I’d be digging in after bedtime! haha

That’s such a thoughtful way to spend the holiday! I love all of Chris’ goodies! I don’t get any trick-or-treaters since my room mate and I live in a walk-up building with no kids. But there’s always plenty of kids running around the neighborhood in costumes. So cute.

Chris is one lucky guy! I love receiving candy. My BF and I have done this a few times, but usually we are getting candy from other people too, so we don’t want too much in the house.

That’s what Chris usually says for Christmas and Easter… we both already get a TON of candy from our parents, he tells me not to get too much since we already get a surplus!

Aw what a great idea :) I get Marty a basket on Easter and hide it somewhere outside for him to find! I’ve never enjoyed gift giving so much until I got married!
