Checking IN Before the Power Goes OUT
28 Oct
Hey everyone! It’s been a few days! That always seems to happen… I lose steam and/or other responsibilities take over my life in the later part of each work week.
**********
Whether you live on the east coast or not, you may have heard about this pesky storm called Hurricane Sandy…
So far, we haven’t seen much action here is southeastern PA, although it isn’t supposed to pick up until tomorrow. I’ve heard that many schools in NJ and NY are closed Monday and Tuesday, but no word on what local districts will do. I feel like the northeast is notorious for blowing storms out of proportion, but based on the weather reports this does seem pretty legitimate… guess we’ll just wait and see!
Besides waiting for Sandy’s arrival, nothing else too exciting has been happening!
Friday night, I decided to venture out and complete my grocery shopping for the week, assuming the stores would be swamped Saturday and today. I waited until about 7:30PM (I wanted to avoid the post-work crowd) then I headed to Target and the grocery store. It was definitely more crowded than usual, but it wasn’t unbearable.
Sadly, the bananas were rather picked over! I got the last decent bunch, so I’m good for a few days.
Saturday morning I finally made it to spin class; I hadn’t been in weeks! Afterwards I completed a quick, 1 mile run, then I came home and cleaned the whole house.
This morning I headed back to the gym for another treadmill run (it was a little rainy this morning!) and finished up my workout with 10 minutes on the Arc Trainer. Before I went to the gym, I fueled up with a dark chocolate cherry SOYJOY bar… yum!
This helped me to feel satisfied throughout my workout without weighing me down… a key factor to any pre-workout snack!
By the time I got home, I was ready for breakfast, and I got to work on some cranberry baked oatmeal…
Clearly, the recipe isn’t perfected yet, but I hope it will be soon and I’ll share it when it is!
The rest of my day has been spent writing a paper for my grad class, doing some laundry, and writing lesson plans. A whole stack of grading is still waiting for me, so that’s next on my list!
I’m not sure when I’ll be back. Of course I’m crossing my fingers (and toes!) that we won’t lose power, but it seems almost inevitable at this point… maybe we’ll luck out though! Stewie looks a bit concerned…
He hates going outside in the rain!
Tell me about your weekend! Did you have to make any special preparations for Hurricane Sandy?

Thanks for your comment! I agree with you about the consistently of the Pumpkin Dump Cake, but definitely good mixed with ice cream!
I am still waiting on news about work tomorrow, too! Septa/public transportation into Philly suspended through tomorrow at this time, so we’ll see! Have a good rest of the day!!

I know; it’s crazy how far inland it’s reaching!
Stay safe girl! Every school around here is closed tomorrow so I’m sure you’ll be as well. PS- Random question but I keep forgetting to ask you, how far away are you from Landsdale?
I’m about 45-50 minutes away from Landsdale!
Good luck and stay safe.
I was out east for Hurricane Irene last August. We prepped by stocking the house with food and water, watching TV and hosting a 16 person sleepover with all my family : ) Turned into a more fun evening than expected!

Thanks! This is shaping up to be quite a bit worse than Hurricane Irene, but we’re still hanging in there and have power so overall we’re happy!
Be safe with Sandy! They closed my office today, but I’m a little unsure why. Tomorrow is going to be the worse of it. My grocery store was surprisingly not picked over, except for the water and toilet paper. Clearly people don’t have the right priorities. I would grab the bananas too haha.

lol the water was pretty much gone too! I never understand why people get SO freaked. Yes, it might be a day or so before you can get out, but does anyone need like 4 cases of bottled water?!
Keep safe during the store girl. My prayers are with all of you on the East Coast!
&& that baked oatmeal looks delicious by the way xo

Thinking of you as Sandy makes its arrival! I live away enough to not feel the wrath, but our weather is definitely being affected by the storm, cold and rainy. Can’t complain though when I think of those facing the storm head on.

This is the only good thing about living in Wisconsin – we get major snowstorms but that’s pretty much it. I hope you guys don’t get anything either!

Major snow storms used to be our primary worry out here too! But it seems like in recent years hurricanes have become the norm as well.
Stay dry when Sandy comes along! We felt a few of her gusts down here in Miami, but being a South Florida native hurricanes have become a daily activity haha.
