Half Marathon Training Update
24 Oct
Hey everyone!
Wednesdays are usually dedicated to a What I Ate Wednesday post, but since I eat much of the same thing (especially for breakfast and lunch), I decided to give it a rest.
Instead, I wanted to update you all on my half marathon training progress. For those of you who might have missed it, I’m training for the Disney Princess Half, which takes place in February.
The Plan
I’ve been somewhat following the plan. It always calls for two thirty minute runs during the week, then (usually) a longer run on the weekend. Last week, I only did one thirty minute run during the week, but I was sure to complete my scheduled four miles over the weekend.
I know that I need to be as focused and dedicated as possible, so I’m going to 100% guarantee that I’ll complete all three runs this week!
Aches and Pains
So far, I haven’t been too bothered by anything. I do tend to get hip flexor pain towards the end of my runs, and today I’m experiencing some soreness in my hip. I’m attributing it to running two days in a row, then taking BodyPump, so tonight was a rest day and I’ll see how I feel tomorrow.
Success and Struggle
My biggest success had been running four miles! I still have to take a few walking breaks, but I’m surprised – and proud – of the progress I’ve made so far.
My biggest struggle has been completing 3 runs each week… I’m working on it.
Cross Training
I’ve been pretty consistent with attending BodyPump twice a week. I’m starting to miss spin, so I’m going to try to make it to a class on Saturday… we’ll see!
Items on my “To Buy” List
- A pink Spibelt
- This headband
- A Garmin Forerunner 10 (still!)
What I’m Listening to on my Runs
I’m loving the new Taylor Swift album! Please tell me there are other T. Swift fans out there? Some other songs that have stayed on my rotation? “Cruising California,” by The Offspring ,“Levels (Skrillex Remix),” by Avicii, and “Little Lion Man,” from Punk Goes Pop Vol. 4.
Days Until the Half Marathon

I haven’t done a WIAW in a while… I’m too repetitive! Congrats on four miles!

Me too! My sister and I love her!
You can do it!!! So cool that you are running a half marathon. Usually my go to classes are Body Pump, RPM, Body Combat & Zumba…and yoga when I remember to go!

I could never train for a half-marathon because it is such a huge time commitment. (Well, that and the fact that running 13.1 miles is the last thing that I ever want to do.)

My husband keeps talking about training for a half together lately. I think two runs during the work week is manageable…I hadn’t looked much into plans yet, but expected there to be a lot more.

Yeah, I was surprised by how “easy” the plan seemed and kept felt like I was missing something!
I’ve never seen a spibelt – fun! The headband is super cute!!!!!!
I’m definitely going to get it for the half!
I decided to follow the same plan you’re doing (though I’m not doing a disney half). I skipped the first two weeks so I’m on week 3 and I’m going to attempt the 4 mile run Friday or Saturday. It will be my longest outdoor run yet! And the new Taylor Swift album is definitely helping me to push through my runs!

Good luck with the 4 miles!
I’m having the same problem getting the three runs per week in, too (I’m training for the same half)! I am at least getting in the long run each week, but I, too, need to get better at 3x a week. That’s my goal for the week, and I’ve already gotten one in!

I’m trying not to stress to much about it now, but I feel like once December hits I’ll have to get much more strict with it!
Sounds like your training is going great so far. I’m so proud of you girl xo

Yey! I’m so excited for you– the Disney Princess is such a fantastic event. You’re going to have a blast!
By the way, HUGE Taylor Swift fan right here. In fact, as soon as you recommended her new album I opened up my itunes to download it
haha

Yay! I hope you like it as much as I do!
I’m loving circuits lately! I really have gotten into exercising between 30-45 minutes and circuits are the perf way to get strength and cardio together.
Anything “poppy” that has an awesome beat! Flo Rida’s “I Cry” is the best right now! I actually use my long runs to shuffle through my playlist and listen to songs I haven’t heard in a while.
I need new shoes..always

I need new shoes too!!
I really like the new Taylor Swift song, but I feel completely out of the loop! Taylor Swift is literally the only one I recognized of all the artists you mentioned.

That headband is super adorable! I am looking to buy some hot pink shoes for teaching aerobics at the YMCA!

Fun! Pink makes everything better!
I have been running lately – treadmill. I teach BodyPump, so that’s my other “go-to”.
I don’t listen to music when I run – a few years ago, someone told me that listening to your own breath and the sound of your feet will put you more “in tune” with your body and how you’re feeling throughout your run. Though, my “theme song” for the Seattle marathon this past summer was “Bulletproof” by David Guetta.
I would love to buy a Garmin!!
