Vitamins & Supplements

31 Jul

Before I start this post, I want to preface it by saying that I’m (obviously) not a medical professional. I’m going to be sharing the various vitamins & supplements I take on a (mostly) daily basis, but I’m by no means suggesting that these are best for anyone & everyone.

**********

I used to be a fan of the good ol’ gummy vitamin. Actually, I’m still a fan, I just go through phases where I buy them & times when I don’t. Besides occasionally taking a gummy multivitamin (just FYI, I usually by the Up & Up brand from Target), I take a handful of other vitamins & supplements. My downfall is that I’m pretty bad at remembering to take them each day, but when it comes to mind I’m sure to do so.

First up, Viactiv.

I take Viactivs daily as a calcium supplement. I’m sure most of you know, calcium is important for bone health. I was able to purchase a big bag of chocolate chews at BJ’s for around $9.00, so if you can buy in bulk, it’s definitely a better deal than buying the small containers at the store.

The next three supplements, I was able to sample from Swanson Vitamins.

When I was offered the opportunity to order a few products from Swanson, vitamin B-12 was at the top of my list.

This actually wasn’t my first time taking this vitamin. I took B-12 a few summers ago, when I went to the doctor with complaints of a general lack of energy. B-12 is great for energy & cardio health, & after ruling out any other medical problems, the doctor suggested I start taking some extra B-12. While I haven’t been taking it regularly since then, I’ve definitely noticed it’s positive effects since starting it up again.

I’ve already sang the praises of GoodBelly as a form of probiotics, however you can also get probiotics in pill form.

Probiotics are of course important for maintaining/improving digestive health. I try to remember to take one of these pills every night after dinner.

Lastly, I’ve recently started taking biotin.

Biotin is a supplement that helps to grow healthy hair & nails. I haven’t been taking this regularly enough to see any definite results, but I want to make it a priority so I can really gauge if it’s working!

One of the reasons I used to “shy away” from taking extra vitamins & supplements is because of the cost. Luckily, I was exposed to websites such as Swanson, which offer their products at a low, affordable cost. (Plus, if you sign up to receive e-mails from Swanson, you’ll also be alerted when they are offering special deals & discounts!)

I know it’s not necessarily “good” to take any & every supplement you can get your hands on; too much of a good thing does exist. When deciding on what vitamins & supplements I wanted to incorporate into my diet, I assessed what I was hoping to accomplish by adding supplements, & chose accordingly.

Do you take any vitamins or supplements regularly?

Disclaimer: I was provided with the Swanson products free of charge, however all thoughts & opinions are my own.

Interesting post! I’m awful at taking vitamins as well, but I’m wondering if B12 might be helpful for me. I could always use some more energy. :)

So weird, I was telling a co-worker today how I needed my hair to grow faster over the next month in time for my wedding and she suggest Biotin! I had never heard of it before so I will be trying it for sure :)

For a while I was so good about taking my vitamins and now I’ve been slacking off terribly! I take a multi-vitamin and fish oil every day. I occasionally take BCAAs to help with recovery after tough workouts.

I actually never take any vitamins – there are probably a few I could use, but I try to get as many vitamins and minerals as I can from food!

At work we offer a weekly B12 shot for our patients, and SO many of them come in just because they say it gives them tons of energy! I’ve yet to try it myself, but there’s definitely truth to that energy thaang
