WIAW – Zoo Edition
25 Jul
Happy half-way through the week!
Another Wednesday = another What I Ate Wednesday. Be sure to head over to Jen’s blog – Peas & Crayons – to check out the other bloggers involved in the link-up.

Breakfast – Cereal with blueberries & (unpictured) iced coffee
Since I had to get out the door relatively quickly, I threw together something fast. I found some random cereal in our pantry & added a handful of blueberries for a little something extra.
AM Snack – (unpictured) 100 calorie pack of almonds
I ate these on our drive to the zoo!
We spent quite a bit of time walking around the zoo before thinking about food.
Lunch – Cheeseburger & fries with a diet Coke
Definitely not the healthiest lunch, but options were limited & it did the trick. It was actually a pretty good cheeseburger, & I’d estimate I ate about 1/2-3/4 of the fries.
We walked around the zoo for another hour or so, then eventually headed home.
PM Snack – Smoothie made with Vega Bodacious Berry Energizing Smoothie, 1 frozen banana, 1 c. almond milk, blueberries, & 1 heaping tbsp. vanilla Chobani
The smoothie actually made enough to fill 2 wine glasses… the more, the better!
Since my dinner tonight was nothing special, instead I’m going to share a new recipe that I created yesterday afternoon.
Buffalo Turkey Sliders
Ingredients:
- 1 lb. lean, ground turkey
- 1/3 c. buffalo sauce (I used mild, but I don’t like spicy foods.)
- About 1/2 c. bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- Salt, pepper, & celery salt to taste
Directions:
- Combine all ingredients.
- Form slider-sized patties & bake at 375* for 30 minutes.
To bake the sliders, I put a cooling rack on top of a baking sheet so that the heat could circulate around the entire burger. If you’re unable to do this, I’d simply flip the burgers half-way through cooking. Also, I didn’t have slider buns (& didn’t want to spend the $ on them), but I did have regular burger buns that needed to be used. Cutting them in half did the trick just fine (even if they look a little silly).
Toppings were kept simple with just a bit of ketchup & mustard.
A few things before signing off tonight…
First, be sure to enter my GoodBelly giveaway (you have until Friday to do so!). It supports a great cause.
Second, I recently updated the Recipe page. It hadn’t been touched since February, & I added 18 recipes that I’ve shared since then! (Note to self: add buffalo turkey sliders recipe!)
Third, I’m in the process of updating the What I’m Reading page. My Google Reader has grown exponentially, so expect that to be totally up-to-date tomorrow (check it out if you’re looking for some new blogs to read!).
Fourth, I’m so excited that Chris & I will be visiting Revel in Atlantic City to celebrate our anniversary! Which brings me to one of tonight’s questions…
Have any locals been to Revel? Thoughts/suggestions? We’re only staying for one night!
What’s the best thing that you ate today?

Omg the zoo looks fun!
I just checked out your “What I’m Reading” page too. Thanks for including me!

Looks like you had a blast at the zoo – how fun!!! So excited for you and Chris on your anniversary plans!!!
Me too! I’ve heard the hotel is really nice, so I can’t wait to check it out! It stinks we can only stay for 1 night, but Chris has no vacation days!
I haven’t been to Revel but I heard it’s pretty nice! It looks like you had a great time at the zoo. The best thing I ate today was my lunch from Cafe Fresco – the Chicken Avocado Club – yum!

You should definitely go! The only thing I was disappointed about was that there were no elephants!

I love the bowl your cereal is in. I’m a sucker for pottery. The best thing I ate yesterday was ToppersStix. I’m not sure if they have Toppers in PA, but I haven’t gotten takeout pizza from there in forever and it was SO GOOD

Looks like you had a fun day–now I want to go to the zoo!
Haven’t been since I was a kid.
I haven’t been to the zoo in the longest time, it looks like you had a great day! We have the ‘Columbus Zoo Lights’ in December that I hope to get to this year. From what I can remember, when you get too cold, you can move inside and decorate animal shaped sugar cookies while drinking hot chocolate
