Froyo for Dinner + Kitchen Inspiration
23 Jul
Hey everyone! I hope your week is off to a good start.
My morning started out on a not-so-positive note… with my “princess pack.”
Remember that headache I mentioned last night? Well it didn’t go away & was still really bothering me this morning. Chris’s parents got me this ice pack – I think for Easter – & it’s perfect for when I get really bad headaches (I always feel like putting something super cold on my head really helps).
Because of my headache, I slept in a little later than I had planned. The pain did subside though, & I decided to go to the gym once I got up. Before leaving, I grabbed a 100 calorie pack of almonds to fuel me through my workout.
At the gym, I covered 3 miles on the treadmill + cool-down in about 40 minutes. I alternated between running & walking & did a few sprints during the running portions. I was really just playing around with different speeds & enjoying the Britney Spears station on Pandora.
Last week I received a $5 rewards card at my gym, so I used it today to purchase a recovery shake. This was the first time I ever got a shake at my gym & I’m almost sorry I did because it was really, really good.
Mocha Java – Columbian coffee blended with rich Ghirardelli chocolate, protein powder & skim milk.
After I got home from the gym, I caught up on some blog reading before showering & prepping lunch for Chris & I. I made salads – a bed of American blend topped with sliced turkey, feta cheese, croutons, & Italian dressing.
Later in the day, I snacked on vanilla Chobani, topped with blueberries, chocolate chips, & a drizzle of honey (I love this combination).
The rest of my afternoon was spent grocery shopping & running errands.
Since today is my mom’s actual birthday, we celebrated by getting froyo for dinner (both my husband & my dad work second shift, so my mom & I are usually on our own for dinner).
I can’t remember what all I dumped in here, but trust me, it was good.

It’s been a little while since I showed you pictures of our new home, so tonight I’m going to give you a peek at the kitchen. Chris & I probably won’t do much decorating for the first year for several reasons. First, we’re doing a rent-to-own deal, so we don’t officially make settlement until December. Second, it’s a new construction home, & we were told we could get nail pops & other small issues within the first year. We’ll probably hold off painting because who wants to repaint an entire wall because of one nail pop?!
Anyway… here are a few shots of the kitchen:
View from the family room (hi Stewie!)
Even though we won’t be doing anything major for a little while, that hasn’t stopped me from pinning some ideas of what I’d like to do when the time comes!
Possible color schemes…
Light fixture upgrade…
Tile backsplash…
Fun artwork…
Even if it didn’t “make sense” to wait to start working on a few things, I really think it’s best to just “be” in the house for a little while before we start painting/buying new furniture/etc. We’re not exactly sure what we really want yet, so I’m hoping settling in for a little while will help us to get a clearer picture of what will work best.
Which kitchen color scheme do you prefer – crafted tints or the parrot shades? Or neither? What color is YOUR kitchen?

The house looks great! Glad you are settling in.
Love that pug picture! I think you definitely need it

Love it!! I see a microwave – glad u finally got it!!
lol yeah I got it a few weeks ago! It’s not the perfect color but it’ll do for now!
Nothing better than froyo dinner!
So glad your headache went away:) That light fixture is gorgeous! And I vote for the parrot color palate! My kitchen is kind of a limey-moss green (can’t remember the exact name) with some black and white neutrals…I love it, but can’t wait to do blue in out next kitchen!

I love your kitchen – it’s huge! I love bright colors in a kitchen, so my vote is for the parrot shades–which goes great with the pug art if you ask me!

That’s exactly what I was thinking!
Oooo, I like that light fixture! My kitchen is sort of a butterscotch yellow – light and fresh but not terribly bright

That sounds like a nice color!
Everything is coming together great girl! Oh, and your “dinner” looks delicious!
I have to say Erica, I like that you and Chris are actually waiting to decorate your home. My mom and dad lived in their new house for 6 months so they could get the personality of the house. I thought they were nuts but I am glad they did because it looks so much better than their “original” thoughts. I like bright kitchens too. I am all about the parrot colors you picked out. The backsplash is totally awesome too. Enjoy pinning your thoughts!
Thanks Nikki! Since we are trying to do things on a budget, I really want to think through & decide on what will look best the first time around rather than hastily purchasing things that I might not like a year from now!
I like the parrot colors, I think they would make a fresh and vibrant kitchen! We waited a few months before painting and decorating our new house too however now I would love to repaint our entire house – I finally have some sense of design and what I like

I’m starting to lean towards the parrot colors too! Who knows what I’ll be into when it actually comes time to paint though!
