Sick as a Dog
15 Apr
Not me, this guy:
Doesn’t he look like a sick boy?!
Stewie gave Chris & I both quite a scare last night; actually, we’re still quite concerned, but let’s back up to last night…
Stewie has been acting a little “off” since Thursday. He always loves to sleep, but he seemed to be sleeping more than usual & not his normal, friendly pug self.
Last night after eating his dinner, he couldn’t seem to settle & we could both tell he was very uncomfortable. We really got concerned when his stomach looked a bit enlarged. Although more typical in large-breed dogs, we were concerned about bloat & decided to make an emergency vet visit.
Everything checked out a-okay. He was acting more normal once we got to the vet & he seemed alright once we were home. This morning, however, he was back to acting strange. Chris was laying with him in bed this morning & when he shifted just slightly, Stewie let out a loud wince like nothing I’ve ever heard before. Chris said that he did play with him for a bit this afternoon & he seemed fine, but after we both returned from afternoons out of the apartment, he’s back to acting super lethargic.
Needless to say, we’re making a return trip back to the vet tomorrow. If any of you are dog owners who have experienced something like this in the past, please shed some light on what the issue could be!

The weekend hasn’t been all bad.
Yesterday was spent helping my sister move, & afterwards I napped & grocery shopped before the pug-craziness ensued.
This morning I woke up bright & early to start working on some to-dos that didn’t get accomplished yesterday, but first I started my morning with some peanut butter cup oats.
I made my overnight oats the way I normally do, but this time I added in a tsp. of cocoa powder. This morning I added one packet of Truvia for sweetness + 1 tsp. peanut butter.
After church, my mom & I (along with my aunt & cousins) headed off to a designer purse Bingo.
Unfortunately, we weren’t very lucky, but I did enjoy my free hot dog & soda! It’s actually been a long time since I’ve had a hotdog, so it tasted especially delicious.
Bingo went on for several hours, so I was thankful that I already had dinner going in the crockpot. I followed this recipe for inspiration, & ended up with a simple, satisfying dinner!
Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken
Ingredients:
- About 2 lb. boneless, skinless chicken tenderloins
- 3/4 c. BBQ sauce + 1 tbsp. brown sugar, mixed
- 1 c. chicken stock
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 1/2 c. dried apricots, chopped
- 1/2 c. golden raisins
Directions:
- Place chicken tenderloins in the crock pot.
- Combine remaining ingredients, then pour over chicken.
- Cook on low for 8 hours, or on high for 5 hours.
- Serve over brown rice.
It doesn’t get any easier!

Before I sign-off for the evening, I wanted to share with you all some good news. I found out this weekend that I’ve been accepted as a Fitfluential Ambassador! I’m so excited to be working with such an amazing group of people, & I look forward to what’s in store.
I might have asked this before, but… What’s your favorite slow-cooker recipe? Feel free to share links!

AWww, poor guy! Sammy has don this a few times before. The first time he acted this way, we freaked out and took him to the vet and the vet said there was nothing wrong. The second time, we gave him some chicken and rice and he was back to normal in an hour. No idea what the heck was wrong but I wish they could talk. You definitely don’t want to ignore it if it could be serious but then it stinks shelling out hundreds for a vet bill when they could just have some indigestion. Hope he feels better soon!!!

If he could talk, that would be a big help right now!
It’s so funny that you ask about the slow cooker recipe, because I am LITERALLY making this black bean & spinach enchilada slow cooker recipe from Real Simple RIGHT NOW: http://www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/bean-spinach-enchiladas-00100000074133/index.html

I love our Little Stew-Bot, let me know if you need anything. Just remember, he is out little street fighter, nothing will keep him down to long.
That’s true! He’s a scrappy little guy!
Poor puppy – hope he feels better! That recipe really makes me want to buy a slow cooker – we just have such a small kitchen and too many tools already. And congrats of FF ambassador! I joined a few weeks ago but I’m not really sure if I’m a member or not (I know I’m not an ambassador) – do you have to get approved or something? I’ve only gotten like one email. I’d really like to be more involved!

You MUST make room for a slow-cooker!
Once you “register” for Fitfluential, you have to also send in an email applying to be an Ambassador. The instructions are outlined at the bottom of this page: http://fitfluential.com/ambassadors/
